At Loveday, art is a fundamental part of our activities programme and the benefits are numerous, particularly for those living with dementia.
Art provides an important means for self-expression, enhancing and allowing communication and connections with others on an emotional level, even when language skills are impaired. Thoughts, feeling and memories can be expressed, helping to foster a sense of identity and dignity.
Art has also been proven to stimulate cognitive functions such as attention, concentration and even problem-solving skills. It promotes mental stimulation and helps to maintain cognitive abilities for a longer period of time. Artistic endeavours also enhance sensory perception, motor skills, improving dexterity and coordination.
Art therapy can also help reduce anxiety, agitation and depression, providing a soothing and uplifting experience. It creates a supportive environment where individuals feel valued and encouraged, boosting their self-confidence and sense of achievement and accomplishment. The social outlet that Loveday Art Workshops provide in a group setting enables participants to share their experiences and build their connections with others, promoting happiness and well-being.
We are really proud of our Loveday Arts curriculum and we were delighted to be using art as one of our many therapies to improve the lives of our Members.
