The Amazing Grace
Get an insight into the world of Loveday’s Artist in Residence – Grace Holliday
How long have you worked at Loveday?
I have been Loveday’s Artist in Residence for almost 5 years, I started just after Chelsea Court Place opened in 2016.
Where do you live?
I live in South London.
Hobbies & interests?
I like visiting exhibitions and treasure hunting at antiques and vintage markets or shops. I love objects that have a story attached to them so, I spend a lot of my time collecting wonderful things!
Favourite part of London?
I love Greenwich. It reminds me of exploring during my childhood at weekends and has some amazing heritage buildings and good pubs (which is very important!).
Favourite restaurant?
It’s so difficult to choose a favourite as I have so many. A recent restaurant I discovered called Marcella in South London celebrates brilliant Italian food which I love.
Favourite holiday destination?
Probably Greece because of the culture, food and beautiful scenery.
Favourite movie?
I have many favourites but a film I could watch time and time again would probably be Mermaids. I am a huge Cher fan.
Career highlight?
I’ve worked on some amazing projects as an artist but it was great last year to see my fashion collection in Anthropologie. The collection was curated in the window of the Regent St store which was a real moment for me.
Favourite meal to enjoy with Members?
I love traditional comfort food, so fish and chips it has to be!
What music gets you dancing with Members?
Something upbeat like Motown tunes are always fun.
Favourite part of job?
Seeing the tangible difference that the arts can make in people’s lives. I have been lucky enough to teach people of all ages from 2 years old to 101. Each day is different and each person interprets my briefs in a completely unique way. It’s a real privilege.
Favourite activity to do with Members?
Definitely painting. These workshops are the most expressive. I enjoy having creative conversations with members whilst observing as the blank space of the canvas soon fills with gesture and traces of different ideas. It’s that transformation moment that I always look forward to.
Favourite part of the day?
I am an evening person. I love settling down, putting on a nice candle and reading a book.
What gets you out of bed in the morning?
The diversity of my role as an artist and creative educator. Being in my studio one day and in a workshop environment the next. I love working with the Members on so many mixed-media projects. I am constantly in awe of the outcomes that are produced and shared as part of the projects I design and deliver. It’s truly inspiring.
If you could take Members on a journey anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
I would probably take them to Paris as it combines the best of the old and new. We could experience the architecture, fashion, foods and arts all in one amazing setting.
What does good care mean to you?
Good care means freedom to me. Living in a stimulating environment that not only celebrates the individual, but also nurtures a real sense of community.
