We had the most wonderful time celebrating our love of art throughout the month of June with a spectacularly colourful programme of experiences which was enjoyed by all of our Members. The month was curated around the interests of our Members, so there really was something for every artistic taste and talent!
From 22nd June – 2nd July Loveday participated in the Kensington and Chelsea Art Week, where we opened the lobby of Loveday Kensington to members of the public to view 'The Loveday Residency Archive: Celebrating Art in Lockdown and Beyond'. This art exhibition was a body of work which told the story of work throughout this time, celebrating a diverse collection of mixed-media works produced at the point of reuniting. We were delighted to welcome the Chelsea Pensioners who also contributed work to this exhibition, as part of the Loveday Arts donation to the Royal Hospital.
We also enjoyed a wonderfully artistic Extraordinary Day Out where our Members enjoyed a trip to the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition, which has a history dating back to 1769. The exhibiton explored the theme “Only Connect”, taken from the famous quote in Howards End by E.M. Forster.
Our Members had an immersive tour through London to the exhibition by our wonderful tour guide. At the exhibition, they browsed the fantastic collection of art, which comprised 1,614 pieces which included towering sculptures by the late Phyllida Barlow, works by Tracey Emin and a witty painting by Joe Lycet, the comedian. Our Members were fascinated by the exhibition, seeking inspiration for the next Loveday Arts workshop!
The arty day finished with a delicious high tea at the Fortnum and Mason Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon where Members were treated to a delicious afternoon. Fortnum and Mason has been a longstanding patron of the arts, contributing to the growth and development of the artistic community so it was very fitting to end our day with this experience!
